For many, Week 2 is when ovulation takes place, releasing an egg from your ovary. If sperm is present, fertilization can occur, marking the very beginning of a new life. ## What's happening with baby

At Week 2, what we refer to as 'baby' is either an egg preparing for release, or, if conception has occurred, a newly formed zygote. This single cell, a combination of genetic material from both parents, embarks on a journey down the fallopian tube. It begins a rapid process of cellular division, multiplying into a tiny cluster of cells. This microscopic entity is a marvel of biology, already carrying all the genetic information that will determine eye color, hair color, and so much more.

## What you might be feeling

Physically, you might be experiencing signs of ovulation, such as a slight increase in basal body temperature, changes in cervical mucus, or mild cramping on one side. Emotionally, this can be a time of anticipation, especially if you're actively trying to conceive. You might feel a heightened sense of awareness about your body and its rhythms. For some, there's a quiet excitement, a sense of hope and possibility, as you navigate this pre-conception or very early conception phase. It's perfectly normal to feel a mix of emotions as you wait to see what unfolds.
